“Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today. Drill them into your children. Speak of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest.”Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Inspired by this passage in the Book of Deuteronomy where Israel is commanded to pass down the truths of God’s plan from generation to generation. We believe that today’s parents need guidance in teaching the truths of the Catholic faith to their children. Paul and Kay Halfmann, along with many other church leaders are greatly concerned by the alarming decline of young adults who are practicing the Catholic faith. (80% are leaving the church by age 24*) Friend after friend shared stories of how their adult children no longer attend church or lived out Catholic values. Inspired by the Holy Spirit to action, they developed a questionnaire and sent it to over 100 people who have raised adult children and who still practice their faith, asking many questions about what worked, what didn’t, and how they did it. They found several common denominators and from there, and then further developed the
Four Core Principles:
~ Prayer in the family
~ Forming your children’s consciences and morals
~Understanding the dignity of who we are as Children of God
~Living out faith through evangelization.
From these principles, four sessions have been developed using real stories, humor, and practical advice to empower today’s parents with the tools and guidance to pass on the faith to their children.
